Expressions of Faith: Facade

Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
(Colossians 2:23 NIV)

Facade

Long verse. Short thought.

This reminds me of the viewpoint of the Pharisees on just about everything.

It’s easy to focus on things of little to no value. It’s also easy to elevate those things to the level of the appearance of wisdom.

But, we need to remember that appearing to be wise is not the same as being wise.

We must be careful not to allow a spirit with the appearance of wisdom into our hearts. And, we must dismiss that spirit quickly through prayer when it does get in.

God, help me to act wisely not appear to be wise.
