Expressions of Faith: Clothing
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
(Colossians 3:12 NIV)
Clothing
It is interesting to me how much emphasis Paul puts on what appears to be physical actions by us in this chapter.
The verse does not say, "God automatically puts this on you when He chooses you."
This verse does say, clothe yourselves with..."
Each the attributes Paul lists includes choices we must make to exhibit them in our lives.
I'm reminded of when anyone receives a new shirt or dress.
Great style. Perfect color. And the fit is to die for.
But, if you don't put the clothes on—if you never wear them—you might as well never have received them.
It’s the same with God’s attributes—you choose to wear what’s in your closet or not.
