Expressions of Faith: Power
being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,
(Colossians 1:11 NIV)
Power
Power is a double-edged sword.
- Too much power can fry electronics and corrupt leaders.
- Too little power over time leads to disappointment, depression, leads to conflict... and tripped circuit breakers and blown fuses.
- No power makes everything stop-electronics, cars, bodies, brains.
Unfortunately, even once Christian leaders can be corrupted by power.
- A dangerous teaching was threatening the church at Colossae.
- That teaching lessened Christ’s role and undermined the new identity of believers “in Christ” (1:2, 28).
Paul wrote to warn against this false teaching and to encourage the believers in their growth toward Christian maturity.
He emphasizes Christ’s authority over all evil powers.
Christians are united with the risen Christ, and therefore they share in his power and authority.
God promises all power to Christians so we can endure patiently…
- when needed…
- as long as needed.
And, this is power that never runs out!
God, help me to accept this power instead of struggling through tough times alone.
