Miracle #2 – Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit – Mark 1:21-28

Where to “cast out” demons go?

  • The abyss.
  • Hell.
  • You’ll still find them wandering around looking for a “vessel” to do evil.

Do you think evil spirits and Satan live in hell? Why? Or Why not?

  • Not yet. They can move now like angels. AT JUDGMENT, THEY WILL BE PLACED IN HELL FOR ETERNITY.
  • If they were in Hell now, there would be little to no chaos on Earth.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

Ephesians 2:1-3

Does hell exist now or will it become reality after the Second Coming? Defend your choice.

  • It exists, but there is no population until the final judgment.
  • At the final judgment, there are no levels to Hell—everyone is treated the same when sent to Hell.
  • Seventh-Day Adventists believe in an intermediate body.

How is Jesus’ popularity described in Mark 1, 2, and 3 as a result of this miracle?

  • Very popular. Essentially nothing bad is said about Him.
  • The Pharisees are irritated by his teachings and the fact that Jesus reached out to “bad people.”
  • The people thought He was great, but the Pharisees attack Jesus.

What are two things people “took away” from this miracle?

  • They were amazed by His teaching and His authoritative presentation of His lessons.
  • He was a healer and even demons obey Him.

If this was Jesus’ only recorded miracle, how would that change your concept of God? If it wouldn’t change it, why not?

  • Masses of people followed Jesus for “the show,” in many cases not for His teaching.
  • Creature comfort/pain hinders wanting to hear His teaching.
  • The people did not have the Holy Spirit.
  • Pray, expecting a miracle..
  • Miracles happen, but not necessarily the ones you want!

Bonus thought.

  • Be a miracle for someone whenever you can.
