Miracle #3 – A Man With Leprosy – Mark 1:40-45
The command to remain silent was a temporary measure with a purpose. Typically, Scripture calls us to tell others of God’s good work in our lives.
What’s one good thing God did for you for which you are especially grateful?
- When someone volunteered to babysit while I visited a friend in the hospital before they died.
- Affirmed a decision we made after considering it for several years.
- I was able to find an apartment and move in only three days before cancer surgery.
- For His protection while I was in the Army and deployed in Vietnam.
- When both my children were in an accident that totaled their car.
Who could you encourage by sharing this story? How could you do that?
- The two questions above are for your personal consideration.
- If you can’t think of someone, pray. Ask God to guide you to someone and give you a plan to share your faith with that person.
Who do you remember for their compassion when you were hurt or sick?
- A pastor who came to the hospital to pray for my child.
- A family friend who was always there when I need her.
What was a leper’s day-to-day life like?
- Isolation.
- Hopelessness.
- It was hard work just to keep going.
- They were responsible for maintaining distance between themselves and others.
- Why me?
- What’s going to stop working of fall off me today?
- Hoping/Praying that their family would continue to bring food.
- Being grateful for those called to work with lepers.
1) What’s the difference between “cured” and “cleansed”?
- Medical vs. Religious.
- Being able to worship.
- A priest pronounced cured. Cleansing was done through sacrifices.
2) Which would cause the biggest change in a leper’s life? Explain.
- Cured. No worry about increased damage.
- Perspective. Cured was important but essential to be cleansed
- Priestly confirmation-they were responsible.
- Cure = disease and is an outward result.
- Healing = personal and internal. There is no healing without the person agreeing. FAITH
Read Mark 2:17. Find 3 miracles that lead up to that passage.
1) Evil spirit cast out.
2) A leper is cured.
3) Paralytic brought to Jesus by his friends.
