Expressions of Faith: Awesome
Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
(1 Peter 1:17 NIV)
Awesome
According to a quick web search, the Bible uses the word fear in relationship to God 300 times.
Many of those times it means just what we think of as the meaning of fear.
However, in many other places, fear refers to AWE rather than shaking in anticipation of danger.
I think this verse is a time for awe—awesome reverence for God.
Early cathedrals were designed for that purpose. I think a bit more introspective time in church without distractions of noise, be it music or speech, would benefit all of us busy-Christians by allowing us to focus on the Awesome God we serve.
