#BibleStudy: Expressions of Faith. Perseverance. James Ch 1.

You'll find a section in this post titled, Express Your Faith this Week at the end of the bullet points. There are three parts to the expression process:
Pray every day, Think, and Do
Try all three parts.
Let me know your thoughts on these additions.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
James 1:4
In today’s society, much like parts of the well-to-do in the “civilized world” in when James was writing, not lacking anything was the goal.
  • Emperors, Senators, wealthy merchants—anyone with money to spare—spent obscene amounts of money on homes, weddings, parties, and burial arrangements.
  • They wanted it to be clear to all observers they were not lacking anything.

However, James isn’t writing about lacking worldly items.
  • Perseverance in a job is a good thing.
  • Most of the people described above were willing to persevere to tangible items.

Go back to verses 2-3 to get the proper perspective.
  • The perseverance James refers to is during times of testing, and it leads to a mature and complete person, not a more extravagant lifestyle.

What are you lacking in your life?
  • Money? Fame? A big home? An expensive sports car? Diamonds?
  • Perseverance might get you some, perhaps all of those…
  • until you die.
  • Then, when every piece of evidence of your worldly success is stripped away, will you be lacking nothing?

Accepting Jesus as your Savior and preserving through life as you follow Him is the only way to ensure that you are “not lacking anything” in heaven for eternity.
Express Your Faith this Week

  • Pray every dayAsk for wisdom and grace as you persevere and for God to reveal ways you can pray for others.
  • ThinkRead James 1:1-18, maybe each morning for a week. Use The Message version if you can. Look for new ideas and insights.
  • DoWrite a bullet point list about what God is saying to you through two ideas you had while reading the passages of Scripture. Add extra bullets if you need to. Start a second list if you find over two new ideas or insights.
