#BibleLesson Timeless Truths. Covenant Living and Faithful Giving - Part 2

Nearly 2ooo verses in the Bible refer to money/giving.

That’s more than any other topic but God!

At least 20 of 30 major Parables of Jesus address your attitude toward possessions.

An estimated one of every seven verses in the Gospels deals with money.

Covenant living includes faithful giving that begins with tithing

The amount given is not critical, the proportion is the key.

From last week...

Five Biblical reasons for being a tither:
1. Obedience to God
Tithing is submitting to God.

2. Love of God
Tithing is loving God.

3. Gratitude to God
Tithing is thanking God.

Reasons 4 and 5 follow.

Five Biblical reasons for being a tither:

4. Trust in God

  • Don't wait until the end of the pay cycle and give God whatever you have left, if anything.
  • Give the first 10% and trust God's Word.

Malachi 3:10-11
10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty

Proverbs 3:9-10
Honor the Lord with your wealth,    with the firstfruits of all your crops;10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing,    and your vats will brim over with new wine.

Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Luke 6:38
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

The verses above assure you that you can trust God's promises to meet your needs as you are faithful with His tithe.

Tithing is trusting in God.

5. Be Honest with God.
  • Malachi 3:8-10 makes it clear: if you are not tithing you are robbing God!
  • Isn't it unthinkable that a Christian would steal from anyone - much less God and His work.
  • You must continually remind yourself that you are not really giving a tithe, you are returning it.
  • The tithe already belongs to God. He designated it for His work.

Tithing is honesty with God.

God’s Plan
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse..."

God’s Promise
" ... and test me now in this ... "

God's provision
" ... and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

Malachi 3:10
