#BibleStudy Thoughts on the Questions from James Ch 1 on 03-15-2020

I suspect that my Sunday school class will not meet as a group for the next two+ weeks because of the Corona Virus threat. I will continue to post questions and answers, but they will not be what my class discussed. I hope you enjoy the change.

For as many Sundays as needed, my Sunday school class will explore the context and content of the practical content of the Letter from James.

This is Wednesday. What follows are bits and pieces of the discussion in class on the questions posted two days ago.

If you miss getting the questions on Mondays, I invite you to go back. Copy, and paste the questions from those posts into a word.docx and fill in blanks or answer questions on your own. You can compare your thoughts to those of my class members each Wednesday. If your answers don’t match my class’s answers, that doesn’t make your answers wrong. If you like more information about what was said in class, email me at the address at the end of this post.

I hope you enjoy exploring this practical book along with us. Each Sunday's discussion ends at the last question in black print. Photos included are of the "whiteboard" list I generated during the discussion and are nothing but time savers for me.

Questions
in this print were answered in previous weeks.

I invite you to check this blog site on Friday when my Expressions of Faith posts are from James. Here's last week's link's URL.

I also invite you back to these "Questions" blogs next week!

Chapter 1
Verse 12

What other promises encourage joy among trials?
  • Matthew 5:4. Comfort in trials
  • 1 Peter 1:6. Grief  Joy
  • Hebrews 12:2. Jesus’ Joy
  • 2 Corinthians 8:2. Finding joy in poverty

Word study: TEMPTATION, TRIAL, and TESTING all come from same Greek word-group, but they are not the same.
  • How you approach each of these is critical.
  • Trial. Allow by God
  • Temptation. From Satan
  • Testing is often your own doing.
  • All are proving grounds.

TRIAL: Matt 4:1.
  • God allows to prepare us for His blessing.
  • Some trials are self-inflicted, others are from an outside source.
  • When going through a trial, remember that God is in control.

TEMPTATION: Ex 20:20, Deut 8:2,16;
  • You have some control because you can walk away from temptation at any time.
  • You must resist the Devil AND focus on God.
  • God will not allow any tempting beyond what you can overcome because God provides a way out.
  • It’s a choice of doing something against God’s will.
  • Only those who don’t yield to temptation experience the full extent of the temptation.

TESTING: Heb 2:10,18, 4:15-16, James 1:2-4. Job 1:6-2:10, 42:1-6.
  • God talks you close to your breaking point, but you don’t break if you remain faithful.
  • It is for Spiritual growth.
  • What you learn during testing is key.

Taken together, James 1:1-12 should be titled, “Testing for Toughness.”

WE GOT THIS FAR THIS WEEK.
