#BibleStudy Study Questions from James Ch 2 on 07/12/2020
For as many Sundays as needed, my Sunday school class will explore the context and content of the practical content of the Letter from James.
Questions discussed are posted on Monday and a sampling of the discussion of each question is posted the Wednesday of that week. That will continue with minor cosmetic adjustments.
If this is your first experience with my blogs, I invite you to copy and paste the questions into a word.docx and fill in blanks or answer questions before next week. We rarely do more than 6 or 8 questions in a given week.
I hope you'll explore this practical book along with us.
I'll post our answers on Wednesday.
Chapter 3
Verses 1-12
If man cannot tame the tongue, who can? How?
Besides profanity, to what kinds of speech does v9 refer? Why is cursing a human being particularly bad?
James uses salt/fresh water as an example of doubleness regarding the tongue. What will happen is salt and fresh water are mixed? How does that relate to praise and cursing?
In 3:2, James says a person who controls his tongue is "perfect," but in 3:8 he says that no man can tame it. How can we control our tongues and become mature?
What can we do to become more godly in what we say?
WE GOT THIS FAR THIS WEEK.
V13-18
What is the difference between wisdom and understanding?
Why do we need both?
Why is humility an essential ingredient?
What is meant by "bitter envy" and "selfish ambition"? Do those terms really need the adjectives? How could those traits effect someone's ministry?
What are the differences between "earthly" wisdom and wisdom from God?
What is meant by "disorder"?
Why do envy and selfish ambition lead to disorder and evil practices?
What is meant by "considerate" and "submissive"?
Does a peacemaker avoid conflict at all costs? Does he end debate by imposing his own will? Does he give in?
Why are peacemaking and righteousness connected like they are?
What can we do to grow in heavenly wisdom?
