#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith (with applications). Fix Your Thoughts
The suggested timeline for each Bible study in this series is one week.
Friday
- Read the entire section or chapter of Hebrews that includes the printed verses.
- Read the Bible study bullet points and the Scripture immediately following.
- Then Express Your Faith this Week by completing the three tasks.
Pray every day. There is a suggestion for how to focus your prayers.
Think. An idea or two designed to get you thinking about Scripture.
Do. An activity to complete. Ranging from making a list to drawing a picture, this is will help you apply what you’ve been thinking. You might want to work on this on days 3-7. Each “Do” is downloadable for you to print and write on.
Days 2-7
Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3. You don’t have to
- I taught high school and college classes full-time for thirty-nine years. I know full well that some of you independent souls will not follow the above-recommended process.
- If you’re one of those, chances are you’ll never read this bullet point.
Ultimately, how you complete this Bible study book is less important than completing it. Nevertheless, I hope you’ll give the recommended process a try before you decide not to follow it.
You might be asking, “What’s with the bullet points?” Then, again, you might not be asking that. Whether you are asking or not, here’s the reason.
Each bullet point focuses on a single idea in the daily Bible study.
Most are one sentence long.
You’re more likely to read the entire bulleted list than you are to read two full paragraphs.
1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest whom we confess. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.
Hebrews 3:1-2
· Too many people in today’s world fix their thoughts on insignificant, temporary things.
· In January 2016, owners of the San Diego Chargers NFL team announced their decision to move the Chargers to Los Angeles.
§ This was news to some, a foregone conclusion to many, a slap in the face to others.
§ It was a tragedy to those who’d fixed their eyes on the team.
o They felt betrayed by the action.
· As Christians—holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling—we are admonished to fix our eyes on Jesus.
§ What does that look like to you?
§ What did your eyes see then that you’re missing now?
· The only way to answer the above questions is to follow Nike’s clarion call and “Just Do It!”
· Do what?
Fix your eyes on Jesus,
and see how that changes
your whole view of life.
Express Your Faith this Week
· Pray every day. Make God the focal point of your thoughts throughout the prayer.
· Think. What is your fixed view focused on now? What should your fixed view be focused on?
· Do. Write your thoughts or a poem about focusing on God on the next page.
