#BibleStudy Study Questions from James Ch 5 on 10/11/2020

For as many Sundays as needed, my Sunday school class will explore the context and content of the practical content of the Letter from James.

Questions discussed are posted on Monday and a sampling of the discussion of each question is posted the Wednesday of that week. That will continue with minor cosmetic adjustments.

If this is your first experience with my blogs, I invite you to copy and paste the questions into a word.docx and fill in blanks or answer questions before next week. We rarely do more than 6 or 8 questions in a given week.

I hope you'll explore this practical book along with us.

I'll post our answers on Wednesday.

Chapter 5

VV13-16: "Afflictions naturally bring out complaints, and to whom should we complain but to God in prayer? Times of affliction should be praying times." Comment on this quotation.

What is James' advice in each of the following situations? trouble, happy, sick.

Do we sing because we are happy or are we happy because we sing?

What is the responsibility of the sick person?

What is the significance of the oil?

WE GOT THIS FAR THIS WEEK.

What actually "heals" the sick person?

What about 15b?

Why is it so important to pray for each other's healing?

Adam Clarke on v16: "The confession required here is that of one Christian to another...where persons have injured on another, have tempted one another to sin, or have consented in the same evil actions." Why is this particular admonition important for the Christian community?

Even if we are "righteous," what is the real source of the power behind our prayer?

Does 16b mean we have to be sinless for God to answer our prayers?

Verses 17-20

VV17-18: See 1Kings 17:1. What was the real miracle in this passage?

V19-20: Who in the church is responsible for a "brother" who is "wandering from the truth"?

Ask for the King James Version. Why is the word "convert" used here? Doesn't God do the converting?
