Signs and Wonders – Miracles

Sunday School Lesson Series

Based on Signs and Wonders: Thirteen Miracles from the Life of Christ

Introduction

Find at least one place in the New Testament where Jesus refused to do a miracle.

  • Jairus Daughter
  • Lazarus when he was sick

Mark 6:4-6

Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Find seven miracles referred to as “signs” in John.

  1. We found more than seven miracles in John.
  2. Water into wine. Ch 2
  3. Noble man’s son healed in Capernaum. Ch 4
  4. Healing a paralytic in the Pool of Bethesda. Ch 5
  5. Feeding the 5000. Ch 5.
  6. Man’s withered hand. Ch 5.
  7. Walk on water. Ch 6.
  8. A blind man healed by washing in a pool. (The question about his blindness was, “who sinned?” – Ch 9)
  9. Lazarus raised from the dead. Ch 11.

Nicodemus comments to Jesus in John 3: God must be with You.

Is God the only source of miracles? Explain

Yes _x__  No _x__

  • God is the only source, but He uses many agents. Apostles when they healed people. Moses’ staff.
  • Satan does thing imitating miracles to deceive

What’s the prevailing attitude about miracles in today’s world?

  • They are not connected to God.
  • All “No” answers are God.
  • Miracles are trivialized: Look what I did.
  • Things fall into place with God.
  • What many call “God things” may/may not be miracles.

How close is that to yours?

Self-assessment.

Open discussion.

  • The ultimate healing his heaven.
  • Humility vs. Ego comes into play.
  • Each time God intercedes it’s a miracle.
  • Birth is a miracle.
