Miracle #1 – Water into Wine – John 2:1-11 |
What were some expectations of the guests?
- To have fun, food, and wine
- Having a place to sleep at night
- (The shortage of the best wine was a symbol of Jewish lack of face at that time in history.)
- The actual marriage vows were taken on the 2nd or 3rd day of the week-long event.
Describe Mary and Jesus’s relationship.
- Mother Son // Mary Savior. She knew He was God’s Son.
- Joseph taught Jesus good Jewish behavior.
- He was an obedient son She knew what she was asking for and what she witnessed in this miracle.
- Mary wasn’t quite the typical Jewish mother. She knew things.
- Why did Mary ask Jesus to do the miracle? She might have overheard the women talking about the lack of wine.
- She only talked to Jesus once because, as a Jewish man, He would not take orders from a female in public. But, she did not give Him orders. She told the servants what to do.
How do each of the listed people feel before/after the miracle.
Host
Before
- They were out of wine. Although, that’s not clear.
After
- Relived and excited.
Guest
Before
- They ran out of wine. This is a terrible wedding.
After
- I’m glad we stayed until they served the good wine!
Servants
Before
- After being yelled at for having now wine, the were concerned.
After
- Relieved.
- Maybe believers after the miracle.
