What was Jesus’s purpose for healing the man before forgiving his sin?

  • Sin caused sickness in Jewish theology.
  • Shows His authority over both.

Compare this version with Luke’s account. How many “religious experts” were in the crowd?

  • Several.
  • From Galilee, Judea, Jerusalem

Why?

  • To look for ways to sabotage Jesus’s ministry.

According to the religious experts, what blasphemy(ies) did Jesus commit?

  • Forgave sins.
  • Talks like He is God.

Was it/Were they blasphemy? Explain.

  • To who?
  • It’s only blasphemy if you can’t prove it.
  • Crowd: NO
  • Jewish leaders: YES

Which blasphemy is “easier”? Explain.

  • Proof of forgiveness.
  • Busy work is easy to justify.

Which did Jesus imply was easier? Why?

  • Sin is easier.
