Until we finish, my Sunday school class is studying Miracles of Jesus.

Below are highlights from this week’s class discussion.

 

Miracle #8 – A Sick Woman Touches Jesus – Mark 5:24-34

What societal stigma is shattered by Jesus’s response to the woman’s confession?

• She shouldn’t have been out in public.
• Faith, not sacrifice, is what God wants from His people.
• No women would have been out in public like this.

Comment on Jesus’s actions throughout this passage.

• He’s ready to fill a need as soon as He leaves the boat.

What similarities do you see between this story and the preceding two miracles? 

• Jesus addresses a need. He’s not concerned with what other rabbis did.
• Disciples are perturbed: no food, unclean people, crazy questions from Jesus.

What point does Mark make by grouping these three miracles?

• Jesus meets the needs of individuals.
• Jesus tells those healed to go and tell others.
• Jesus’s “Go in peace” indicated spiritual salvation.
• Evil spirits know who Jesus is. His disciples are clueless.

 

BONUS THOUGHTS THIS WEEK

How would you describe the change in the disciples at this time and after Pentecost?

• Timid faith to faithful witnesses.
• They had their own idea of what Jesus’s agenda should be to following Jesus’s agenda.
