Overall impression
- This miracle is found only in John.
- It happens just before Mary washed Jesus's feet.
- Jesus wept: that term is only used in this passage.
- How did Jesus meet Lazarus? Through Mary?
How would you feel if you were Mary or Martha and heard that Jesus had finally come?
- Ticked off.
- Martha is upset. Mary doesn’t leave the house.
- Both had faith enough to say he could be saved.

What was Jesus' relationship with Lazarus and his sisters?
- He loved them.
- They were close family friends.
- Martha talks like a big sister.
- Peter was as bossy as Martha and was rebuked by Jesus.
This is the final/climactic miracle in John's gospel, through which the author communicates a great deal about Jesus. What insights about Jesus do you see from the following?
- Jesus is fully human while divine.
- Jesus prayed to show the Jews present what He was about to do.
- The disciples didn’t “get it” until verse 14.
Jesus comments in verses 25 -26.
- Shows He can raise from the dead.

Martha's response in verse 27.
- Some people Jesus taught “got it” – Martha was one of those.

- Jesus’ human qualities. He’s thinking about the day of his death.
- He wondered if they “got it.”
- He was moved with compassion with by lesser issues at other times.
- He was feeling our pain.

- He calls out to God to benefit the audience.
- Here’s an example of praying and believing.

- He speaks directly to God in front of the crowd, not like the Jesus in Catholicism.
