#BibleStudy Miracle #11 – Lazarus – John 11:1-3. 17-27, 38-47 2-13-2022. DISCUSSION
How does this miracle illustrate the new birth of Christians and the resurrection of Jesus (see John 3:7; 5:25,28-29)
- Not death.
- The glory of God.
- Christians die to the old self.
- Dead in sins. Alive in Christ.
Using the analogy in the previous question, if you were Mary or Martha, how would you describe your emotional state when
- Jesus arrives?
- Relieved.
- Mad/Sad
- He healed others. Why did He let Lazarus die?
You see Lazarus walking in his grave clothes?
- Shock. Awe. Fear.
- Does Lazarus still smell?
- It's part of the miracle.
- Maybe it's Lazarus's spirit.
Lazarus joins you for a meal inside the house?
- Watching to see if Lazarus is real.
- Eating a lot is proof of physical life.
How does heavenly hope for the future positively affect you in this earthly life?
- It keeps me alive
- Things that happen now are petty in the big picture.
- Helps me get through crisis situations.
How do you express your feelings when you’re in the middle of a crisis?
- Run around in circles.
- Mary: Following the Law.
- Martha: To distract her from dealing with the situation.
- People react to grief in different ways: journaling, eating, anger, keeping busy.
If Martha had faith in Jesus, why was she skeptical when Jesus asked them to remove the stone from the tomb's entrance?
- She was living the story, not looking at it retrospectively.
- Martha acted normal for her.
