Expressions of Faith: Shadows
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
(Colossians 2:13, 14 NIV)
Indebtedness
Paul uses Christ's death and resurrection as the scaffold for these verses.
In verse 13, death in sin becomes life in Christ in the same way. Because Christ has forgiven our sins—our legal indebtedness due to the fall of Adam and Eve—is not only forgiven but canceled as well.
Our debt was nailed to the cross with Jesus!
