Expressions of Faith: Significance
In him you were also circumcised with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self, ruled by the flesh, was put off when you were circumcised by Christ,

Significance
For the Jews, circumcision was a physical act of spiritual significance. It set them apart from other tribes in Canaan and beyond. It also reminded them, every time a male child was circumcised, that God had chosen them.
The skin removed by the priest in physical circumcision was small in size. Paul reminds us that physical circumcision is really nothing more than a symbol of what happens to our spirits when we repent and are reconciled to God.
In heart circumcision, our great High Priest removes our whole sinful self—a significant event indeed.
God, circumcise my heart… completely!
