Expressions of Faith: Free Slaves?

Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.

(1 Peter 2:16NIV)

Free Slaves?

There are distinct parts to this admonition.

Live as free people. Peter starts with something everyone wants--to live in freedom. Mental Images abound.
Do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil. This brings the listener up short. How can freedom be used for evil must have run through their minds, along with guilty feelings of thoughts and actions.
Live as God's slaves. Seems to be diametrically opposed to the opening admonition.

Good, contented, joyful slaves.

That's really the easiest way to live parts one and two.
