Timeless Truths: The Call of God

Timeless Truths: The Call of God

1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.  [Genesis 12:1-5]
All Scripture quotations are from the NIV.

The Call of God: to Follow Him Into the Future.
“Faith is the daring of the soul to go farther than it can see.”
William Newton Clark
  • God does not call us to sit still.
  • God continues to call us to step out in faith.
  • In times of need we need a promise, not just an explanation.
  • God is a God of promise and a God of promises.

What is God calling you to do today?

The Call of God: to Give Back the Present with its Blessings
  • Over time, Abraham began to replace his love for God with his love for Isaac.
  • We need to keep our commitment current.
  • We need to accept new faith ventures when they cross our paths.
  • Even when it looked like God was going to take Isaac, Abraham followed his call. Always head toward the altar of God. [See Gen 22:1-19]

“…and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” [Gen 22:18]

Do you dare to give God everything, no matter what your stage in life?

The Call of God: to Continually Give Him the Future
“The call of God comes in a way which does not coerce but leaves room for refusal, implicit obedience, or obedience with a reservation. Abram answered the call of God without reservation.”
(Oswald Sanders – Spiritual Manpower)
  • When Abraham took Isaac to the mountain for sacrifice, God didn’t want Isaac.
  • God wanted Abraham’s whole allegiance once again.

How complete is your allegiance?

Bonus Nugget
You don’t need to remember a phone number to call out to God!
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.Jeremiah 33:3
