#BibleStudy Expression of Faith. James Ch 1. Don’t Tempt Me!
13 When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
James 1:13
You often hear the title phrase after a meal
- Even though you’re full, that desert looks mighty good!
Many people blame God for their failings.
- “How can God let that happen?” is a common question.
Although it’s not as common as blaming a host for tempting them to consume extra calories, many people accuse God of tempting them to do something negative.
James makes it clear that’s never the case.
- God gave gives each person the ability to reason.
- You sin when you let desire override reason and are enticed to perform some sinful action.
- Verse 15 is a magnificent description of what happens once you let evil desire mature.
The death that ends sin’s life cycle in you might be physical.
- Chances are you know someone who died from a drug overdose, long-term abuse, or another addictive experience.
- While physical death is always a possibility when you sin, spiritual death is James’s focus.
There is nothing worse than spiritual death.
- It results in a Godless eternity.
- Next time you feel a nudge to sin, remember that.
Don’t let desire control your enteral destiny.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (John 1:9)
Confess and be forgiven.
That's the only way to stop sin’s life cycle.
