#BibleLesson. Timeless Truths. Where Is Jesus Sending You?
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
John 20:19-23
Step back and assess.
Reflect on the past and plan for the future.
What/Where will God ask of me?
- To Jesus, our devotion in following His example matters more than our destination.
- Obedience in the act of following is more important than the end location.
Jesus' first words are PEACE exactly what the disciples needed.
- Doesn’t mean that Jesus did His task, now you go and take your turn.
- What does it mean that God sent Jesus?
- God’s call is the same for all.
- What is God calling you to do?
- Do you know?
- Do you want to know?
Scripture References:
- Philippians 2:5-11 – Jesus was sent: humble and obedient. But, every tongue will confess Jesus’s name.
- Matthew 10:16-40 – A story of Jesus sending. God gives words to His followers through the Holy Spirit.
- Mark 8·34 36 – Give up what you can’t keep to gain what you can’t lose.
- Luke 9:23 – There is no place to unlikely, or uncomfortable if God calls you.
- Romans 10:13-16 – All who call on Jesus will be saved. We are called to introduce others to God.
The Gospel is “Jesus died for your sins.”
Here's the Truth: Jesus was sent from
- heavenly riches to earthly rags.
- exaltation to humiliation
- authority to obedience
- ultimate significance to ultimate rejection
- comfort to hardship
- safety to danger
- glory to sacrifice
- life to death
And He is sending you to go into the world in exactly the same way!
Every statement above goes against the grain of your “self.”
- Earthly life looks for more. Jesus empties.
- Sometimes when God sends us somewhere it looks senseless to others.
- Secular mantras include “live and let live.” Tolerance, not truth, is of higher value today.
Words are important to God.
“Preach the gospel always… When necessary use words.”
Saint Francis of Assisi
However, words are needed in today’s world.
Jesus died for your sins.
- All you have to do is accept his love and repent.
We are here to fulfill the mission of Jesus in this world.
- The most important thing is life is knowing God.
My Commitment: "Lord, based upon what I heard You say to me in this message I choose to obey You by . . ."
