#BibleStudy Signs and Wonders – Miracle # 10 – “Two Blind Miracle Stories Mark 8:22-26; 10:46-52 – 01-02-2022 – Discussion

Overall Impression
  • Jesus spits on a blind man.
  • Friends brought a blind man to Jesus.
  • The blind man called to Jesus.
  • One blind man is healed by touch the other by faith only.
Why do you think the methods of healing the same problem were so different?
  • Jesus shows His work can be accomplished by different methods.
  • One was around friends the other with a crowd.
  • Jesus sometimes asked people to do something to strengthen their faith.
  • The technique is not significant.
Why did Jesus lead the blind man outside the village (v8:24), then tell him not to go back to the village in v8:35?
  • That drew no attention to Jesus.
  • The disciples and Jesus were on the way somewhere.
  • To focus on the message, not the actions.
  • Crowds were tempted to focus on Jesus, not His message.
Why did Jesus spit on the blind man's eyes? (v8:23)
  • It doesn't say why?
  • Some healers considered saliva a treatment for blindness.
  • Spitting was used by Jews as a healing material. It was expected by the townspeople.
Why was this instance of healing a gradual process? (8:24-25)
  • Physical action helped raise expectations.
  • The blind man's spirit improved as the healing happened.
  • The spit was for the Jews. The touches were for the completion of the healing process.
Why did the crowd rebuke Bartimais and tell him to be quiet?
  • Each member of the crowd was focused on his/her own situation.
  • They think Bartimais is rude.
  • They considered Bartimais a sinner because illnesses were associated with sin, and Bartimais was not blind since his birth.
Why did Jesus ask a blind person what he wanted Jesus to do for him? (v10:51)
  • It makes a great sermon topic.
  • "Have mercy on me" is vague. Jesus wanted specifics. Little things we do make a difference. Miracles are not just for the healing, they increase the faith of others.
  • To ensure Bartimais was being honest with God.
  • Others are impacted by action/reaction to miracles.
Why would Mark include both healings of blindness miracles?
  • They were different situations.
  • There were different people watching.
We got this far this week.
