Why did Mary and Martha send for Jesus?
- Lazarus was sick.
- He was very, very sick.
What happens in this miracle to illustrate that Jesus loved Lazarus?
- He cries (weeps).
- He was sad Lazarus died.
Who's the only other person specifically named as someone Jesus loved?
- The Apostle John, author of this book in the Bible.
Why did Jesus wait four days before he went to see Lazarus?
- To make sure he was declared physically dead-only after four days in a tomb-according to Jewish law.
How do we know there was a crowd when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead?
- A crowd followed Mary when she went to the tomb.
Is verse 11: 21 a rebuke or an expression of regret?
- Rebuke: Martha says he should have come sooner.
- Regret: She cries over the loss of her brother.
Verse 22 includes the term “but I know.” What does Martha know? If that's true, why is she so confused in verse 39.
- Jesus could raise Lazarus from the dead.
- Human obedience was often required by Jesus for the miracle to happen.
- There was a point to make.
The Pharisees and other Jewish groups believed in a general resurrection. What would she have understood Jesus' comment to imply?
- She was chastised.
- No one should move the stone.
- Did the family have the expectation of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead?
