Timeless Truths: An Absent God? Part 2

#21. Timeless Truths: An Absent God? Part 2

2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? 7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. 8 By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.
Psalm 42:2, 7-8
All Scripture quotations are from the NIV.

WHEN GOD SEEMS HIDDEN, REMEMBER

Last week we looked at WHAT and WHERE

1. What I tune in to determines what I turn out like.
2. Where I put my hope determines where I get my help.

This week we end our list with

3. Who I choose determines who changes me.
  • Ultimately, we each decide who to follow. I almost put who/what, but the reality is you either follow God or you don’t.
  • Deep calls to deep.” Ps 42:7 is how the psalm writer describes God—one of the deeps—reaching out to us—the other deep.
  • In 1 Corinthians 2:10, Paul tells us “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” God wants us to choose Him.

Exploring the Deeps: My Soul and My God

My Soul. There are three deep places in our souls. Each requires a choice of how to fill that depth.
  • Depth of need. Only God can quench this thirst. My soul thirsts for God v2.
  • Depth of possibility. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27
  • Depth of responsibility. So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Romans 14:12

My God. While we can’t understand His depth, we can know that the many aspects of the depth of God include
  • His love is deep. By day the Lord directs His love. v8
  • His thoughts are deep. How great are your works, LORD how profound are your thoughts! Psalm 92:5
  • His resources are deep. God promises to meet our needs. Luke quotes Paul and Barnabas in Acts 14:17, Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.”

Though he slay me, yet I will hope in him. Job 13:15

A story is told of an elderly farm couple. They had been married for many years. For all those years, they rode to and from town in the farmer’s pickup truck. Since the wife could not drive with a manual transmission, the farmer drove, and she sat in the passenger side of the bench seat.

As they were driving home from town one day, the wife asked.

“Why don’t we sit close to each other like we used to do when we first got married?”

Without taking his eyes of the road, the farmer answered.

“I ain’t moved.”

When God seems absent in your life, remember

God ain’t moved.

We can’t control our soul’s searching for God.
It's built into our DNA. Everybody's searching for something.

We can’t control God’s searching for us.
God doesn't want anyone to die before they've chosen Him.

We can control WHO we seek and HOW we seek Him.
It's our choices that determine our destiny.
He’s waiting for you to choose to be close to Him.
