Expressions of Faith: Hebrews Ch 2. Slaves to Fear

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. Scripture here.

Slaves to Fear

Verse 14 and verse 16 bookend this thought

Christ became human to help humanity.

Christ died so His death and resurrection would

1.   Defeat “the power of death” that is Satan.

2.   Free those who were/are slaves to their fear of death.

Fear is a powerful motivator.

Like all motivators, fear only motivates when conditions are right.

Through Christ’s resources, God provides complete removal of fear’s motivation to those who believe.
