Thoughts on Hebrews Questions from 7/2
My Sunday School Life Group is studying Hebrews. Every Monday, I post questions that were discussed the day before in Sunday School. I encourage you to ponder/think about them and jot down your thoughts.
On Wednesdays, I post some of the ideas that came up in the Life Group's discussion for you to consider.
Make yourself comfortable, this is most likely going to be a year-long experience.
These questions were discussed in my Life Group yesterday. Take time to reflect on them. I'll post thoughts from the class discussion on Wednesday of this week.
Hebrews 3
Vv 1-6
Besides angels, who is Christ greater than?
Moses.Jesus: an apostle. Thoughts?
An apostle is a follower of Christ, appointed by God--One who is sent and represents the one sending. Jesus spoke of being sent to the world by The Father. Apostles were important 1st Century church teachers. Apostles are ambassadors. This title shows Christ's Holy ministry and commission--He was sent by God.
What level of faith is ascribed to Moses? What’s evidence supports your claim?
Faithful in ALL. He was a servant who followed directions to the finish. Exodus 40:1-33 describes Moses supervision of construction of the Tabernacle.
What about a house builder makes him/her greater than the mansion he/she builds?
Moses "built" the "house of Israel." The church was "built" by Christ, but church does not equal Christ. Moses was part of a house--Jesus is in charge--we follow orders.
Comment on v4.
God is the builder. The house God is building will not be destroyed. Each of us "builds one thing"--God makes it all fit together.
Give an example of Moses’ testimony of the future.
The 10 Commandments = behavior in the future. Moses in Deuteronomy witnessed Jesus passing by. God said of Moses,
“Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;
I speak to him in a dream.
7 Not so with My servant Moses;
He is faithful in all My house.
8 I speak with him face to face,
Even plainly, and not in dark sayings;
And he sees the form of the Lord."

Numbers 12:1b-8a
The Holy Spirit is NOW. We can/should be witnesses.
How do you get to be a house? How do you stay a house?Repent - become a house & Obey - stay a house. Our body is a temple.
But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. Hebrews 3:6 (NIV)
Chapter 3
Vv 7-19
- What’s the “time of testing” in vv 7-11? What brought about God’s oath?
- What does it mean to turn your heart away from God?
- What does the author mean by “today” in v13? When will that “today” end?
- What confidence is referenced in v14?
- What rebellion? Oh, look there’s the answer to the first question in v16.
- What is a hardened heart? Can you think of another hardened heart?
- Can you imagine what feeling the anger of God might be like? Now extend that for 40 years.
- What was the underlying problem of the generation that “died in the desert”?
