#BibleStudy Timeless Truths. How to Make Your Life a Masterpiece #3. Life in the Spirit
Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
1 Corinthians 12:1-7, 13
INTRODUCTION
If your life is being lived in black and white, the Holy Spirit can transform you into living color!
The key is living the Spirit-Filled life.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT (v1)
This takes personal prayer time through the Holy Spirit.
When you learn more about the Holy Spirit, you experience His fullness.
BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (v8)
Every believer needs to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is a command, not an option.
We get the Holy Spirit with salvation—FILLED means more of you is gone.
The Holy Spirit convicts you of sin.
Satan wants you to think that God condemns you because of your sin.
But, God calls you to repentance.
God gives you what you need to succeed for Him as the Holy Spirit controls, empowers, and directs you.
So I say to you, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Galatians 5:16
ASK FOR IT
Asking to be filled is the same process as asking for salvation.
This is an act of obedience.
I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Galatians 3:2
be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18b
ACCEPT/RECEIVE IT
[Jesus] breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:22
It’s necessary to receive if you want to believe.
Receive is to yield to the filling by the Spirit.
ACT ON IT
Use the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
Without fruit, there is no evidence of being filled.
Think of this as withdrawing what you need when you need it from God’s resources—God’s spiritual gifts when they are needed.
If your heart if right with God, you can be filled with the Holy Spirit at any time!
HOW TO WALK IN/LIVE IN IT 24/7 (vv4-6)
The Principle of Spiritual Breathing
- Exhale impurities à CONFESS when you become aware of sin without waiting.
- Inhale the presence of the Holy Spirit à SURRENDER and receive His power.
Just like physical breathing, the inhaling/exhaling is an all-day process.
Keep in step with the Holy Spirit to be led in every aspect of your life!
Try this:
For one week—each day of that week—ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit at least once during every waking hour
Thank Jesus for His presence at the end of the day.
