Expressions of Faith. Hebrews 13. Equipped to Do God's Will

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Equipped to Do God’s Will

This is a benedictory blessing.
It’s a common finale to the New Testament letters.
As is also common, the blessing is a not-too-subtle admonition to the reader**.
** That's you and me!

The author asks God to equip the recipients of his letter.
I suspect that’s kind of like saying, “I just gave you the instructions, follow them.”

The Letter to the Hebrews is full of life-changing ideas.

  • If you’ve been following along with my class, I hope you remember more than a few of the ideas you came up with or I shared from my class discussion.
  • If you haven’t been following the study, it’s not too late to read this letter.
  • Pretend you're a Christian, but you used to be a Jew. If you knew anything about Jesus before your conversion, the Pharisees and other scholars of the time biased it against Him through their teachings.
  • If possible, LISTEN to an audio version of the letter. That's how it would have happened at the time Hebrews was written.

Whether you read it or listen to it, stop when you find an equipping statement.

Act on the statement.

Hearing the Word is good.
Doing what the Word directs you to do is what God expects.
