#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith. Acts Ch 2. Fellowship (With Believers?)
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Acts 2:42-47
4. Fellowship (with Believers?)
Teaching.
Fellowship.
Food.
Prayer.
Miracles.
Togetherness.
Self-sacrifice.
Sharing.
Praise.
· Verses 42-46 uses the above terms to describe the earliest church. (It’s not called church yet. That term does not appear until 5:11.)
· Sounds idyllic.
· What happens in a short period of time—see Acts 5 & 6—alerts us to what can happen in even the most cohesive groups over time.
· If . . .
§ At least a few members feel pressure to do what others are doing, even though in their own hearts are not in it. (Acts 5:1-10)
§ Specific needs of subgroups aren’t recognized and addressed (Acts 6)
· Each issue that arose was resolved in its own way.
· Some not without consequences.
