Chapter 10:23b-33
When do they head to Caesarea?
The next day.
What is implied by this?
The trip is important.
This episode took 3-4 days from Cornelius' vision to the trip back from Simon the Tanners home. What is Cornelius doing?
Praying
Expecting
Waiting for God's answer
How does this show the depth of Cornelius' faith?
He was expecting, not hoping
He did not doubt.
He had faith.

He did not doubt.
He had faith.
Why would Cornelius "fall at [Peter's] feet"?
This was significant because a centurion did not bow to many.
He considered Peter superior because he was God's messenger.
Cornelius showed that he was willing to give up his rank and influence for God.
He felt in awe of Peter's godliness.

How does Peter respond to this act of Cornelius?
He helps him up - like with the cripple in Jerusalem.
He says they are equals--just men.
The only One worthy of worship is God.What does Peter do then?
He goes into Cornelius' house and finds LOTS of people.
Added observation: It's clear that God ordained the encounter because He did not speak to only one side.

How does he explain this non-Jewish action?
He says
What is Peter's question to the group?
What am I doing here?
He says
- God told him that Jewish Law was overcome by Jesus life/death/resurrection.
- No one is superior to another in God's sight.
What is Peter's question to the group?
What am I doing here?
Cornelius' answer is straight-forward. He adds one thing, what?
"... Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.” v33Why do you think he adds this?
To make sure that Peter does preach.
He changes from "I sent for you" to "we are all here to listen."
34-48
How does Peter's sermon here differ from his previous sermons?
He refers to "every nation."
He did not accuse them of killing Jesus.
He doesn't include Jesus as part of the TrinityHe calls Jesus "Lord of all" in v36.
What happens before the end of the sermon?
The Holy Spirit comes "to all who were listening."
We thought it was interesting and probably significant that Luke doesn't say "all who were there." Listening was important.

The full meaning of his animals on a sheet dream meant all people were included, too.
He tells them to baptize the new believers in the name of Jesus Christ.
