Thoughts on Study Questions from Acts Ch 11 on 2/3



My Sunday school class/Life Group is studying the book of Acts. I posted these questions this Monday and encouraged you to jot your thoughts down.

Chapter 11
19-26
Who is given "first shot" at the Gospel by the evangelists?
Jews.

Who are "the Greeks"?
Also known as Hellenists, they were people of many nationalities who adopted much Greek culture including speaking Greek.

What is the secret of the evangelist's success?
"The hand of the Lord was with them." v21

Why is Barnabas sent to Antioch?
To verify the infilling with the Holy Spirit was the same action that occurred in Jerusalem on Pentecost.
To encourage the new converts. "Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”)" Acts 4:36
To see what was going on.
To act as a peacekeeper if necessary.
The Jewish church sent emissaries who were generous and helpful.

What is the effect of his visit?
Many were saved and added to the church.
They remained faithful as they continued to serve.

Where else does he go? 
To Tarsus.

Why?
To get Saul and bring him back to Antioch.

How long do Saul and Barnabas "pastor" the church at Antioch?
One year.
During that time, Barnabas turns the reins over to Saul.

What significant terminology arises from this church?
"The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch." v26c
