Timeless Truths. Mission Possible Lesson 1 - Jesus is the Answer

34 Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. 35 In every nation he accepts those who fear him and do what is right. 36 This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. 37 You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee, after John began preaching his message of baptism. 38 And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

39 “And we apostles are witnesses of all he did throughout Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a cross,[a] 40 but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear, 41 not to the general public,[b] but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all—the living and the dead. 43 He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name.”
Acts 10: 34-43 (New Living Translation)
Q. Who are Christians?
A. They should be “Jesus people.” The early church talked only about Jesus! (see my Expressions of Faith blog series on the book of Acts.)

Acts 10:34-43 follows Peter’s revelation on clean and unclean food, etc.
  • Peter’s in Cornelius’ house.
  • Cornelius prays to Jehovah but does not follow Hebrew rituals.
  • Cornelius was a pre-Christian.

INTRODUCTION

Churches used to sing “Jesus is the answer for the world today,” a song by Andre Crouch.

That phrase is the heart of the Gospel.
  • It summarizes the message of the New Testament.
  • It hasn’t changed in 2100 years.
  • It’s as true today as it was in the first century church.

Jesus went to Cornelius house to show him the way to God and what JESUS could do for him.

JESUS needs to be your center!

THREE THINGS JESUS CAN DO FOR YOU

1.  Jesus can bring you PEACE. He can do that because He is Lord of ALL.
He came to bring us PEACE
  • WITH GOD. This is relational peace. It’s PEACE that passes all understanding. (Romans 5:1; Colossians 1:20)
  • WITH OURSELVES. This is God’s peace. (John 14:27; Philippians 4:7)
  • WITH ONE ANOTHER. Make every effort to be at PEACE with everyone. (Hebrews 12:14)
  • IN THE MIDST OF TURMOIL PEACE with your past, your present, your future AND during the storms in your life. (John 16:33)

Q. How do you get PEACE?
A. Ask God for it.

2.  Jesus came to be an EXAMPLE. (also Luke 7:11-17)
Verse 38 is a summary of the life of Christ. “… Jesus wen around doing good.”
  • Jesus showed compassion to all in need.
  • Jesus cared about people.
  • You can do for others only when you show compassion.
  • What you do should be motivated by your compassion.

3.  Jesus will be your JUDGE. (Act 10:42, Colossians 2:9, John 10:30,Philippians 2:6-8)

CONCLUSION - Acts 10:43

Everyone is saved through the name of Jesus.

Jesus IS the answer to
  • How do you make peace with your past?
  • What is your purpose for today?
  • What promise do you have for tomorrow?
