#BibleLesson Timeless Truths. What Christians Believe About The Bible - Part 1

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Tim:3:14-16

If you grew up in the church, you probably own more than one Bible. Now, you probably have a Bible app.

The Bible has been described as
  • A rule book to follow
  • An answer book
  • An encyclopedia or a history book
  • A science book
  • A road map for life
  • An owner's manual

Some of those descriptive terms work well at times, but they often lead to you defending God's Word in a way that alienates others.

Then, what is the Bible?
The Bible is a conversation between God and humanity.

The Bible describes itself in several ways.
Lamp/Light - Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp for my feet,

    a light on my path.

Sword - Ephesians 6:17
Take ... the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Truth - John 17:17
Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth.

Alive/Living and Active/Powerful - Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. (NIV)
For the word of God is living and powerful (NKJV)
  • The Bible is alive because of what it does in your life.
  • The power comes from the authority you give it.

The Word of God is life-changing for ALL generations.

You cannot have true relationships without Scripture.

While having a Bible is good, reading and studying the Bible is what God intends for you. Next week's Timeless Truth provides specifics and examples.
