#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith. Colossians 1 - Qualified

and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
(Colossians 1:12 NIV)

In swimming and track, only athletes performing at the highest level in their event qualify for the Olympics.

The athlete is responsible for doing whatever it takes to qualify herself or himself.

(S)he probably has one or more coaches to teach, cajole, threaten, or whatever is needed to get the athlete to excel.

It's different in Christianity.

  • First, qualification as a Child of God is open to all, regardless of any amount of talent or effort they do or don't have.
  • Second, individuals can't do anything to qualify as a Child of God.
God qualifies you to share His inheritance.

Nothing else can qualify you.

If you've not yet qualified because you think you're not

  • good enough,
  • pretty/handsome enough,
  • skillful enough,
  • smart enough,
  • strong enough,
  • ___________ (Fill in any other descriptor you want),
REMEMBER,

Christianity is different from anything else.

  • Qualification is open to all, regardless.
  • You can't qualify yourself.
  • God qualifies us to share His inheritance.
  • Nothing else can qualify you.
Once again, God turns human ideas upside down.

Jesus, God's Son, did what was needed to qualify you when He died on the cross.

Thank you, Jesus for this act of ultimate love.
