#BibleLesson Timeless Truths. What Christians Believe About The Bible - 4 key truths

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Tim:3:14-16

If you grew up in the church, you probably own more than one Bible. Now, you probably have a Bible app.

The Bible has been described as
  • A rule book to follow
  • An answer book
  • An encyclopedia or a history book
  • A science book
  • A road map for life
  • An owner's manual

Some of those descriptive terms work well at times, but they often lead to you defending God's Word in a way that alienates others.

Here are four key truths about the Bible.

Teaches You Truth
  • The truth is NOT the text, but the RELATIONSHIP it directs you to--how to live a transformed life.

For example:
  • Genesis: God created --> Revelation: Live right now!

Teaches You To Do What Is Right
  • It corrects you when you are doing wrong things.
  • This is God's voice in your life leading you to a relationship with HIM.

Prepares You And Equips You To Build God's Kingdom
How to:
  • Do what you're called to do.
  • Be what you're called to be.

It Is Inspired By God
Inspired in this verse is the same verb used when
  • God breathes life into Adam - Genesis 2:7.
  • God parts the Red Sea - Exodus 14:21
  • Jairus's daughter is raised back to life - Luke 8:54-55.
  • God's breath breathes life into Scripture - 2 Timothy 3:16.

Paul says that the stories of faith passed along are trustworthy because the storytellers were faithful.

You are responsible for telling the story of God.

Storytelling is truth telling.

Scripture should remind you of why you love God and how much God loves you.
