#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith (with applications). Subjected

The suggested timeline for each Bible study in this series is one week.

Friday
  1. Read the entire section or chapter of Hebrews that includes the printed verses.
  2. Read the Bible study bullet points and the Scripture immediately following.
  3. Then Express Your Faith this Week by completing the three tasks.

  • Pray every day. There is a suggestion for how to focus your prayers.
  • Think. An idea or two designed to get you thinking about Scripture.
  • Do. An activity to complete. Ranging from making a list to drawing a picture, this is will help you apply what you’ve been thinking. You might want to work on this on days 3-7. Each “Do” is downloadable for you to print and write on.

Days 2-7
Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3. You don’t have to

I taught high school and college classes full-time for thirty-nine years. I know full well that some of you independent souls will not follow the above-recommended process.
If you’re one of those, chances are you’ll never read this bullet point.

Ultimately, how you complete this Bible study book is less important than completing it. Nevertheless, I hope you’ll give the recommended process a try before you decide not to follow it.
You might be asking, “What’s with the bullet points?” Then, again, you might not be asking that. Whether you are asking or not, here’s the reason.
Each bullet point focuses on a single idea in the daily Bible study.
Most are one sentence long.
You’re more likely to read the entire bulleted list than you are to read two full paragraphs.

and put everything under their feet.” In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them.
 Hebrews 2:8*
·     Americans bristle at the word subject
§  Not the noun used to classify what’s studied in an academic class.
§  The verb defined as “under rule or under control of.”
·     In reality, all humans bristle at that idea.
·     We are born with a rebellious spirit.
·     Some show it more than others, but
§  we all spell our names with a capital “I.”
·     God put Jesus in the place of supreme authority.
·     How did He respond?
§  He chose to be subject and “tast[ed] death for everyone [including you and me]” Hebrews 2:9b
·     To whom are you subject?
If you’re not subject to Christ,
it’s time to fix that!
Express Your Faith this Week
·     Pray every day. Ask God to reveal areas of your life where you are not subject to Him. Then, turn all areas of your life over to God’s control in a prayer of submission.
·     Think. What does it mean to be subject to God?
·     Do. Outline a five-step plan of action to increase God’s role in your life as one of his voluntary subjectsInclude a starting date for implementing that plan.
