Miracle #5 – Feeding 5000 People – Mark 6:30-44
Overall impression
- Not many places to get food in the area they were in.
- Disciples were skeptical.
What was it about Jesus’ ministry that caused that many people to go “away” to hear him?
- Curiosity.
- He was well-known for His healing.
- Eyewitness word of mouth
- He had a different message from other Rabbis.
- He was open to all people: Jews, Gentiles, Men, Women
Why didn’t anyone else have food?
- They were wandering around looking for Jesus.
- They were away from home for a long time.
- Some ate before they went to see Jesus.
You are in the crowd. How do you react to what happened?
- Amazement with the multiplied loaves and fish.
- Some thought it was witchcraft.
- With that many people (possibly close to 20K including women and children), some didn’t see the source of the food or the actual multiplying of the available food.
This is one of the few miracles in all four Gospels. Compare all four.
We didn’t list items from Mark because we listed items from Matthew, Luke, and John that were different.
