#BibleLesson Timeless Truths Rediscovering Jesus--The Man for Others
Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
John 13:1-5 - NIV
The primary term for a politician is "public servant."
Too many are seeking celebrity status because our culture worships celebrities. That's a very wrong choice.
Jesus came to show what a relationship with God was like. We should aspire to imitate him.
ONE ASPECT OF CHRIST’S CHARACTER IS SERVANTHOOD.
John 1:10-11 – Jesus was not accepted
Luke 22:27 – Jesus points out servanthood
Matthew 20:28 – Jesus points out His call to serve
- Be willing to do whatever it takes to bring people to Christ.
- Jesus’s ministry on earth was one of humble service, in spite of His miracles, etc.
- You are most like Jesus when serving others, especially when on your knees and not looking down on them.
PROOF
CIRCUMSTANCES OF HIS BIRTH
- His birth could have been announced to the leaders of religion and politics, but it wasn't.
- He could have been born in a palace, but He wasn't.
- Jesus’s basic life rule was: “What's good enough for the average person is good enough for me.”
- Everyone matters.
- We are all called to live without a sense of entitlement.
LOW-KEY APPROACH TO PUBLIC RECOGNITION
- Matthew 8:4. Jesus touched and healed an outcast leper and told the man not to tell others about it.
- Matthew 9:30. Jesus told this man not to tell anyone after he restored the man his sight.
- Matthew 7:36. Jesus told this man not to tell anyone after restoring his hearing.
- Jesus had no interest in using people to promote his ministry.
- Today it's all about “the buzz” you generate.
- Don’t look for what you’ll gain by doing it.
PERSONAL NEEDS TOOK SECOND PLACE TO HIS NEEDS.
- Luke 9:56. Life's not always easy, yet Jesus chose to live a normal life.
- John 4:32-34. Jesus's strength was to do God's will and finish his work. His stop priority was to do the Father's will.
- Your greatest satisfaction comes from the good you do.
Become great by
- Being willing to get on your knees and serve as needed!
