Miracle #6 – Jesus Calms a Storm – Mark 4:35-41

What did they think Jesus would do to help them survive the storm?

  • The lake was known for its storms.

When have you felt like the disciples in verse 38, wondering whether or not Jesus cared about you and your plight?

  1. Doing something with the family.
  2. Little things that concern us longer than they should.

What happened?

  1. Catastrophe.
  2. Frustration and fear.

What did you learn? I learned…

  1. Things don’t always turn out like you hope.
  2. Pray every day for God to help me focus.

Jesus uses the same word in v39 as He does in Mark 1:25. What does that suggest?

  • Mark 1:25 is talking to the evil spirit.
  • God has the same authority over everything.

What other examples of/references to God’s power of stormy “seas” can you find?

  • We are going to have storms in life.
  • Remember to turn to God first.
  • Don’t always try to solve a problem before talking with God.
  • We’re not always on the mountain top.
  • Conquering a hill and a mountain is not the same—the methods change.

Why did Jesus ask, “Do you still have no faith?”

  • In the Old Testament, faith was rewarded.
  • Faith was the question.
  • Jesus does miracles in your life. Worry less about day-to-day things.
  • There are sailors and passengers on Jesus’s boats. He’s looking for sailors.

Do you think the disciples really had no faith?

  1. Their faith was just beginning to grow.
  2. They were afraid.
  3. As humans, we often fight against trusting God.

BONUS THOUGHTS THIS WEEK

  • Remember that Jesus took care of the immediate need first!

“Through it All” is still a song with one key verse (highlightedthat addresses this topic.

I've had many tears and sorrows,
I've had questions for tomorrow,
there's been times I didn't know right from wrong.
But in every situation,
God gave me blessed consolation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.

Through it all,
through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.

Through it all,
through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.

I've been to lots of places,
I've seen a lot of faces,
there's been times I felt so all alone.
But in my lonely hours,
yes, those precious lonely hours,
Jesus lets me know that I was His own

Through it all,
through it all,
I've learned to trust in Jesus,
I've learned to trust in God.

Through it all,
through it all,
I've learned to depend upon His Word.

I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I'd never had a problem,
I wouldn't know God could solve them,
I'd never know what faith in God could do.
