Until we finish, my Sunday school class is studying Miracles of Jesus.

Below are highlights from this week’s class discussion.

Miracle #9 – Jesus Walks on Water – Matthew 14:22-36

Peter calls out to Jesus twice in this miracle. What and when?

  • What? “If it is you, tell me to come to you.” He had faith.
  • When? Soon after they recognize Jesus. Just before dawn.
  • What? “Save me!”
  • When? When he takes his eyes off Jesus and begins to sink.

What does this suggest about Peter’s perception of Jesus at this time?

  • It’s almost like he was testing Jesus.
  • He’s not sure He’s Messiah, but maybe a prophet.
  • He knew Jesus could save him because Jesus wasn’t sinking.

How is Peter’s faltering an example, or lesson, to all Christians?

  • We all do this: have times of deep faith and times of little faith.
  • Keep our eyes on Jesus.
  • The difference between faith and fear is FOCUS.

When it comes to taking risks, how would you describe yourself?

Impulsive-quick to react. 1 person

Apprehensive-scared to death. 5 people

Procrastinating-putting it off. 3 people

  • I made this an option and not everyone participated. I didn’t record any responses to “Why?”

When have you taken a risk-based on your faith in Jesus?

  • Every time I board an airplane.
  • Driving in Southern California.
  • Going on a mission trip and not knowing how to pay the total cost.
