Expressions of Faith. Hebrews 11 - Faith #5

These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
 Hebrews 11:39-40

Hebrews 11 – Faith #5
“Together with Us”

The author includes 16 names along with some general groupings of people in this Faith Chapter.

Because there is no mention of the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD, and the Greek term for “temple” used by the author is the present tense version, it is generally agreed that this book was written before that date.

All the named faithful people are Old Testament characters.

That does not imply that only OT people were faithful . . .

Or does it?

Every Jew and gentile converted to Judaism lived by faith. The Holy Spirit’s involvement in OT people’s lives was infrequent and specific. Think Gideon (Judges 6:34), Samson (Judges 13:25, and more), and other judges.

OT people had to have superhuman faith at times because of that and “God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”

Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection prepared the way for the coming of the Holy Spirit to all.

That’s the BETTER plan—one that includes spiritual perfection!
