#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith. Acts Ch 3. Jesus as Christ

19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,... 22 For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’

 Acts 3:19, 22-23

6. Jesus as Christ

The term Christ is a translation of the Hebrew term Messiah/Savior.

Accordingtoscriptures.org* reports 353 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ. These include what He would be like and what types of acts He would perform.

When I read some of the references, I don’t see any connection to the Messiah. Then again, I'm not a Hebrew scholar!

Over the 700 years between the giving of The Law—the Ten Commandments—and Jesus’ birth, thousands of Hebrew scholars interpreted the Scriptures.

  • All of them were influenced by their immediate circumstances, which were almost always bad.

  • Many of the interpretations passed on reflect a desire for revenge on the oppressors.

As a result, God’s purpose of the Messiah—salvation for all who believe—was replaced by the idea of a militaristic Messiah.

Peter makes it clear by the end of his sermon (verses 12-26), that Jesus is the Messiah and, in verse 26 that . . .

Turning people from sin to righteousness is God’s plan for His Messiah.

“When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

Have you accepted the Messiah’s offer?

If not, now is the perfect time to do that!
