Thoughts on Study Questions from Acts Ch 2 on 7/22

My Sunday school class/Life Group is studying the book of Acts. Monday, I posted the questions we discussed the day before. Today, I’m posting some of the comments from the class discussion.

If you’d like a PDF file of the questions, email me at crd.author@gmail.com

Chapter 2
V14-36
What explanation (almost in passing) does Peter give for the cause of the events of the day?
Christ is a descendant of David, and David prophesied the following:
Jesus resurrection --> His return to heaven --> and the coming of the Holy Spirit

Verse 36 contains two key terms in describing Jesus. What are they are why is each significant?
1 Lord - God Himself - Authority
2 Christ/Messiah - God's Anointed - Restoration
There was a promise of freedom from tyranny.

Chapter 2
V37-41
Why would the crowd be "cut to the heart" by Peter's message?
By using the term "all of Israel," Peter named all Jews as guilty parties to Christ's death.

Aside. With the Holy Spirit's exit from the Holy of Holies, what was it like for the Chief Priest when he entered the Holy of Holies after Pentecost?

Explain Peter's reply to the question "What shall we do?"
With that question, the crowd was accepting responsibility for Jesus' death.
Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sin. FORGIVENESS is a new concept for Jews. Sacrifices cleansed, but there was no associated forgiveness.
This was the promised Holy Spirit.

How effective was Peter's sermon?
Very effective!
3000 people were saved and baptized.
Forgiveness, Fear/Awe, and Reverence are key points.
The page that follows is from the book,

Notice how God ties events together for the Jews.
