#BibleStudy Expressions of Faith. Acts Ch 4. Cannot Help Speaking
2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead… 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
Acts 4: 2, 19-20
Cannot Help Speaking?
Think of an experience you’ve had that you couldn’t wait to tell people about.
Before too long, everyone you know heard the story—several of them more than one time.
Many such stories are personal success stories.
- A hole in one.
- A large fish.
- A new car.
Other stories are life experiences.
- Surviving a car accident.
- Losing weight.
- Having a baby.
After a time, many/most listeners could care less about the episode you describe.
Some people go out of their way to avoid another telling.
Chapter 4 has three distinct sections: Verses 1-22; 23-31; 32-37
Verses 20, 31, and 33 refer to Christians who
- cannot stop speaking.
- spoke the Word of God boldly.
- continued to testify.
Unlike the stories by speakers who can't help speaking about temporal events, listening to God’s Word should never grow old.
What can’t you stop speaking about?
It’s time to move
the words God gives you
to the top of that list!
