My Sunday school class/Life Group is studying the book of Acts. I posted these questions this Monday and encouraged you to jot your thoughts down.
This is Wednesday. This post consists of some comments from the class discussion.
If you’d like a PDF file of the questions, email me at crd.author@gmail.com.
There is a timeline of Paul's life at the end of the post.

Ch 21 - Vv 27-36
Who causes the real problem for Paul in this passage?
- To the surpise of no one in the class, it was the local Jewish population.
What do they accuse Paul of?
- Bringing Gentiles into the Temple.
Why?
- Paul is seen in the street talking to a Gentile.
- A classic example of guilt by association.
What does their idea of mob justice include?
- Paul is accused of the same "crimes" that Stephen was.
- They try to kill Paul by lynching.
- This is "mob mentality" at it's worst
Who comes to Paul’s rescue?
- The Roman garrison assigned to the temple area. It was adjacet to the Temple.
Why?
- They hear reports that the city is in an uproar.
- The run quickly and arrest Paul.
How do we know this mob was just that, a mob?
- There is no common/consistent answer to what Paul has done wrong.

Vv 37-40
What do we find out about the soldiers real reason for “rescuing” Paul?
- Mistaken identity.
- They think he's an Egyptian assassin.
- Many Jews had recently shave their heads to show the end of a vow, so they didn't look like Jews typically looked.
In a pretty gutsy move, Paul asks to do what?
- He asks permission from the Commander of the Roman Garrison to speak to the crowd.
In this passage Paul speaks in both Greek and Hebrew. What is the significance of each different use of language?
- I have no idea what this question is asking. Paul spoke Aramaic, which was more proof he wasn't the Egyptian.
We got this far this week.

Ch 22 -Vv 1-29
Why does the crowd quiet down?
Why is that surprising, but how does it reinforce that it was a mob?
In vv3-5, Paul gives his early life autobiography. What are the highlights?
Why would Paul use vv6-11 to describe his conversion?
Wouldn’t these people have heard about that?
Paul describes his “call” in vv17-21. Why would the Jewish crowd stop listening at this point?
The crowd goes through all sorts of gyrations. What is the point of them?
What does the tribune decide to do?
What stops him?
What is it about Paul that, even though he’s a Jew, ranks him higher than the tribune?
Notice the reaction of the Romans in v29.
