This is Wednesday. This post consists of some comments from the class discussion.

There is a timeline of Paul's life at the end of the post.

There is a timeline of Paul's life at the end of the post.
Ch 22 -Vv 1-29
What is it about Paul that, even though he’s a Jew, ranks him higher than the tribune?
- Tribune bought Roman citizenship. Paul was born a citizen.
Notice the reaction of the Romans in v29.
- The reaction is fear. Striking, binding, even detaining a Roman citizen was a punishable offense.

Ch 23
(Actually 22:30-23:11)
Why was Paul released?
- He was a Roman citizen.
Where does Paul make this speech?
- In the Sanhedrin.
Why is that ironic?
- This is the same group that sent him out to persecute Christians about two decades earlier.
What physical event takes place almost before Paul begins to speak?
- Paul is threatened with violence-strike him on the mouth.
Explain the strange exchange between Paul and the Sanhedrin in vv3-5.
- A battle of wits using Scripture as weapons.
- Paul's apology is interesting. It implies he did not recognize the Chief Priest's robes. Was he acting? Was his vision that bad at this point in his life?
What is Paul’s tactic in v6?
- Divide and conquer. Pharisees and Saducees were the the two primary "sects" of Jewish religious leadership.
Why choose that particular topic?
- Saducees, who controlled the Sanhedrin, did not believe in resurrection, spirits, or angels. Since Jesus "story" and Paul's journeys both dealt with these issues, declaring his position as a Pharisee was certain to take the spotlight off him.
Who speaks in Paul’s defense?
- Pharisaic scribes.
Why is what he says inflammatory?
- Asked and answered above.
Why does Paul need to be rescued?
- A great clamor or uproar ensues between Saducees and Pharisees.
- Paul is accosted by both sects,. Pharisees are trying to protect. Saducees are surely NOT protecting him!
Who does the rescuing?
- Romans. They are afraid Paul, a citizen, will be pulled apart on their watch!
V11 is what is known as foreshadowing. Stay tuned.
- Going to Rome is foreshadowed. Why and how are yet to come!
