#Bible #Lesson Expressions of Faith. 1 Peter 2. Eat Right

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

(1 Peter 2:2-3 NIV)

In Verse 1, Peter says to rid ourselves of the bad actions (and their cause).

Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

Now, Peter directs us to seek God's Spirit (milk).
The author of Hebrews says this about milk.

Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. Hebrews 5:13

So, what's a person to do?

Once you rid yourself of sin (by confession and repentance), you need nourishment.
  • Peter instructs the newborn baby Christians to

crave the pure spiritual milk of the Holy Spirit.

  • That's the best way to grow from the start.

Notice in Hebrews 5:13, that the author defines an infant as one
not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness.

  • Peter is speaking to infants.
  • The writer of Hebrews is speaking to those who consider themselves beyond infants in Christ.

Before you became a Christian, you browsed the buffet of
malice..., deceit, hypocrisy,
envy, and slander of every kind

The transition from being a "grown-up/mature" sinner to Christian requires a radical change in diet.
pure spiritual milk

This is made easier by the fact that when you taste, you find that the taste of The Lord is good.

Prayer: Help me to crave more pure spiritual milk!
